Football Recap: Colleyville Heritage Beats Mansfield Summit for Their Third Straight Victory

Colleyville Heritage extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 5-3. They came out on top against the Mansfield Summit Jaguars by a score of 28-21. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

It was another big night for Bodey Weaver, who rushed for 76 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also threw for 152 yards and two TDs.

Colleyville Heritage didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Mansfield Summit to a completion percentage of just 36.7%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Ryan Lloyd and Eli Woolery, who each logged two passes deflected. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Colleyville Heritage; they were averaging 62.3%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three games they've fallen to only 62.3%.

Colleyville Heritage didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Dax Hebeisen and Isaiah Haynes. Haynes also made 11 total tackles, which is notable because Colleyville Heritage is undefeated when he posts at least three total tackles, but 1-3 otherwise. The Panthers got some further help from Joesph Nisbet: he made 15 total tackles.

As for Mansfield Summit, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3. They gained 115 more yards on the day, but it was Colleyville Heritage that made the best use of them.

Mansfield Summit's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adarion Nettles, who rushed for 114 yards and a pair of scores. Nettles' rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 105 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Ian Gebhardt, who gained 243 total yards.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Colleyville Heritage will square off against rival Burleson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Weaver and Andrew Sparks. Meanwhile, Mansfield Summit is set to challenge their familiar foe Everman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
