2A District 6 recap October 22, 2013

Newport Central Catholic took down Bishop Brossart 41-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Newport made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,079 from 9,615. The advance stemmed from a 37-36 victory over Holy Cross last week.

Holy Cross' offense cannot be tamed this season and the Indians feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Hamilton Scott has thrown for 254 yards and 1 touchdown this season, while Jalen Beal has 10 catches for 66 yards.

The Indians' Beal needs only 83 yards against the Thoroughbreds next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 130 carries Beal has accumulated 917 yard this year.

An important game coming up in 2A District 6 this week will be when Lloyd Memorial takes on the Wildcats. The Juggernauts are in first place, while Newport is in third place.

Newport Central Catholic led the league in scoring this week by notching 41 points on the Mustangs.
