Softball Game Preview: Mahanoy Area Golden Bears vs. Marian Catholic

Mahanoy Area is 1-9 against Marian Catholic since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Golden Bears will take on Marian Catholic at 11:00 a.m. Mahanoy Area has given up an average of 9.1 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Mahanoy Area is headed into Saturday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Blue Mountain, falling 12-1.

Kayla Birrer spent all three innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Malina Letcher was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last four times she's played. Hailey Treskolasky was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

Marian Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Mahanoy Area's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Marian Catholic, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Mahanoy Area might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Marian Catholic in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Golden Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
