Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Dougherty Valley walked away with it. They enjoyed a cozy 71-52 victory over the Pittsburg Pirates on Tuesday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th in California, while the Pirates are ranked 236th in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pittsburg lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jamar Searcy, who posted eight points along with nine assists and six steals. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in blocks (two). Jermaine Earnest was another key player, going 8-for-18 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds.

Dougherty Valley has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season. The defeat snapped Pittsburg's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 16-11 record.

Dougherty Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 79-61 win against Ygnacio Valley on the 21st. Pittsburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
