Baseball Recap: Johansen Takes a Loss

Johansen had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-11 to make it five. They fell just short of the Lathrop Spartans by a score of 7-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 on Tuesday.

Lava Vaka made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Adrian Regalado, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Lathrop, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-10. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch.

On Lathrop's side, Jaicob Ewing was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The Spartans are 2-1 when Ewing posts two or more runs, but 4-9 otherwise. Elijah McAllister was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Johansen will take on Central Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Lathrop, they will challenge Livingston at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.92 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
