Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Valley Center's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

While Valley Center put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for South. The Hornets skirted past the Cougars 1-0. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-0 on Tuesday.

The result came thanks to Doc Needham's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Valley Center saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Meyer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. Those two hits gave Meyer a new career-high. Braden Heitsman also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Valley Center hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South struck out seven times.

Valley Center is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for South, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-8.

Coming up, Valley Center will take on Andover Central on Tuesday. As for South, they will face off against Maize South at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
