Baseball Game Preview: Irvine Vaqueros vs. Costa Mesa Mustangs

The Irvine Vaqueros will challenge the Costa Mesa Mustangs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Irvine has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight losses, while Costa Mesa will come in with six straight wins.

On Friday, Irvine came up short against Aliso Niguel and fell 9-4.

Ethan Kim made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Owen Song, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Costa Mesa gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Estancia.

Grady Jackson was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025. Hunter Wigmore was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Costa Mesa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .344 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Irvine's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Costa Mesa, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.
