Football Game Preview: Burbank Bulldogs vs. Sam Houston Hurricanes

The Burbank Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Sam Houston Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Burbank will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.

Burbank is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They enjoyed a cozy 29-15 victory over Highlands on Thursday. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Owls recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Burbank's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Edward Rodriguez, who rushed for 195 yards and one score while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, and Leonard Lozano, who rushed for 87 yards and one touchdown on only nine carries.

Burbank's run defense was locked in: Highlands could only muster 1.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Lance Trevino for the heroic effort on defense: he. Burbank didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.4.

Burbank didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Christian Gutierrez and Ambrose Leyva. Burbank got some further help from Ramsey Chavarria: he picked up four sacks and made 12 total tackles.

The home team had come away the winner the last six times Sam Houston and Lanier had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Hurricanes took down the Voks 28-14 on Thursday. The Hurricanes pushed the score to 28-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Voks cut but never quite recovered from.

Burbank's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Sam Houston, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.

Everything went Burbank's way against Sam Houston in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as Burbank made off with a 42-22 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
