Soccer Game Preview: Paraclete vs. Verbum Dei Jesuit

The Paraclete Spirits are taking a road trip to face off against the Verbum Dei Jesuit Eagles at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Paraclete is looking to tack another W on to their season record, something they couldn't quite do against St. Anthony on Wednesday. Paraclete and St. Anthony finished up their game with a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, Verbum Dei Jesuit managed to keep up with Bishop Montgomery until halftime on Wednesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Verbum Dei Jesuit came up short against Bishop Montgomery, falling 4-1. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 1082nd, while the Knights are ranked 199th).

Verbum Dei Jesuit has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which lines up perfectly with their 3-10-1 record this season. Paraclete's draw makes their record 1-3-1 this season.

Paraclete beat Verbum Dei Jesuit by a goal in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, winning 2-1. Will Paraclete repeat their success, or does Verbum Dei Jesuit have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
