Recap: Golden Valley Cougars vs. Central Valley Hawks
The Golden Valley Cougars can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent game on Wednesday. They breezed by Central Valley at home to the tune of 64-36. Given Golden Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 299th, while Central Valley is ranked 1054th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Golden Valley was led to victory by Braden Castleton and Jeff Tangaan. Castleton scored 15 points, while Tangaan scored 13 points. David Denson was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Central Valley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryan Rodriguez, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jellmar Mata, who scored six points.
Central Valley struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Golden Valley pushed their record up to 15-6 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Central Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season.
Golden Valley will face off against Patterson at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Patterson will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Central Valley, they will be playing at home against El Capitan at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully El Capitan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Wednesday.
