Basketball Recap: Marshall Takes a Loss

Marshall lost against Sotomayor back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Marshall Rams lost 60-38 to the Sotomayor WILDCATS. The matchup marked the Rams' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Marshall lost, don't look at Jai Lopez. Despite the final result, he posted ten points. Jason Vidaurri was another key player, putting up ten points and six boards.

Sotomayor's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Demian Joyner led the charge by scoring seven points along with ten rebounds and three steals. What's more, Joyner also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Justin Mcbryde, who went 7 of 13 en route to 15 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Marshall and nudges their season record down to 11-18. As for Sotomayor, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 14-12.

Marshall didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 92-57 defeat against Harlan on the 25th. As for Sotomayor, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 71-37 win against Holmes on the 25th.
