Basketball Recap: Jazzlyn Gomez Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Miyamura

Aztec's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They came out on top against the Miyamura Patriots by a score of 42-34. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won four in a row.

Aztec got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jazzlyn Gomez out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 boards. Those 15 rebounds gave Gomez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Camden Mariano, who posted eight points in addition to six boards and six steals.

Aztec smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive games.

The victory got Aztec back to even at 11-11. As for Miyamura, their defeat was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-21.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Tigers challenge the Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Miyamura, they will host Gallup at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gallup will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Miyamura surely won't give up without a fight.
