Recap: Randleman Tigers vs. Southwestern Randolph Cougars
The Randleman Tigers came tearing into Friday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 61-49 victory over Southwestern Randolph. Given Randleman's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while Southwestern Randolph is ranked 431st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Randleman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tyshaun Goldston, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Goldston is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Connor Cassidy, who scored six points along with eight steals and six rebounds.
Southwestern Randolph's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nathan Ellis, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Robertson, who scored 13 points.
Randleman is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. As for Southwestern Randolph, their loss dropped their record down to 7-14.
Randleman's road trip will continue as they head out to face Uwharrie Charter on February 7th. Randleman is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58.9 points per game this season. As for Southwestern Randolph, they will head out on the road to square off against Eastern Randolph at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southwestern Randolph will be up against Eastern Randolph's rather soft defense (which has allowed 70.6 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive showing.
