Basketball Recap: Gary Tarbuk's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Geibel Catholic over Monessen

Geibel Catholic lost against Monessen back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Geibel Catholic Gators fell 71-61 to the Monessen Greyhounds. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 470th, while the Greyhounds are ranked 222nd).

Geibel Catholic's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gary Tarbuk, who posted ten points along with six assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Strimel, who earned 15 points and five assists.

Even though they lost, Geibel Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Geibel Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Monessen, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-4.

Geibel Catholic will take on Propel Montour at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Monessen, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 63-52 win against Bethlehem Center on the 15th.
