Preview: MCC Crescents vs. College Prep of America Thunder
The MCC Crescents will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the College Prep of America Thunder at 6:30 p.m. on January 26th. One thing working in MCC's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games.
MCC can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent matchup on January 8th. They claimed a resounding 88-19 win over Hinsdale Adventist Academy on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win MCC has posted since December 4, 2023.
MCC got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Youssef Hassab out in front who dropped a triple-double on 21 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals. Hassab also posted eight assists for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Eman Hodzic, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, College Prep of America scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Islamic Foundation 91-37 on the road.
College Prep of America relied on the efforts of Ibrahim Elagha, who scored 29 points along with seven steals and five assists, and Hamzah Shouman, who scored 26 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds. Shouman has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 11 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Hasan Hasan, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and five steals.
MCC pushed their record up to 11-6 with that win, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.3 points per game. As for College Prep of America, their win bumped their record up to 8-12.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: MCC have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like College Prep of America struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for MCC against College Prep of America when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 75-37 victory. Does MCC have another victory up their sleeve, or will College Prep of America turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
