Recap: Illiana Christian Vikings vs. Heritage Christian Defenders
The third road match was the charm for the Illiana Christian Vikings, as they earned their first road win of the season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Heritage Christian 48-20 on the road. This was payback for Illiana Christian, who suffered a 52-42 loss the last time these two teams met.
Illiana Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Abbie Ritzema led the charge by scoring 14 points along with 6 rebounds and 6 steals. The match was Ritzema's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cheyenne DeJong, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Heritage Christian struggled to work together and finished the game with only a assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Illiana Christian posted 12.
Illiana Christian's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Heritage Christian, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Illiana Christian will take on Hanover Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Hanover Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday. As for Heritage Christian, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Victory Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on December 1st. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Indiana (Victory Christian Academy is ranked 296th, while Heritage Christian is ranked 271st).
