Preview: Texico Wolverines vs. Santa Rosa Lions
Texico is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Santa Rosa is on a nine-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Texico Wolverines will take on the Santa Rosa Lions at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Texico walked away with it. They claimed a resounding 50-0 victory over Estancia at home.
Meanwhile, Santa Rosa was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Loving 57-15 at home.
Santa Rosa's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nicolas Chavez, who rushed for 137 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 carries. Chavez was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 61 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Aj Romo, who rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Texico is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. As for Santa Rosa, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.
Texico came out on top in a nail-biter against Santa Rosa when the teams last played back in August, sneaking past 28-26. Will Texico repeat their success, or does Santa Rosa have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
