Basketball Game Preview: Burke Bulldogs vs. Hampton County Hurricanes

The Burke Bulldogs will square off against the Hampton County Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Burke is headed into the game having just posted their closest victory since December 28, 2024 on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged Marion out 69-67.

Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Hampton County rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 56-35 win. The Hurricanes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Hampton County's win came from a few key players Burke will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Darius Brooks, who went 8-for-15 to rack up 20 points and seven boards. That's the most rebounds he has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tyler Davis, who went 5-for-8 en route to 15 points and seven boards.

Hampton County's victory was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.8 points over those games. As for Burke, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.
