Football Recap: Maynard Comes Up Short

Maynard had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-4 to make it seven. They took a hard 44-28 fall against the St. Bernard's Central Catholic Bernardians. The Tigers were down 38-15 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

As for St. Bernard's Central Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.5 points over those games.

St. Bernard's Central Catholic found their leader in sophomore Caleb Lafreniere, who rushed for 51 yards and two TDs, and also threw for 224 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 76.2% of his passes. Lafreniere has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last four times he's played. Nathan Kavanagh was another key player, picking up 89 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maynard will head out to face off against Clinton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Gaels' defense has only allowed 12 points per game this season, so the Tigers' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Bernard's Central Catholic, they will venture away from home to take on Leicester at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
