Baseball Recap: St. Joseph Snags Fourth Win in Last Five Games

St. Joseph barely beat Cape May County Tech the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wildcats' pitcher stepped up to hand the Hawks a 15-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won four matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Bobby Butkus was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. St. Joseph is undefeated when Butkus posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Paul Spena, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

St. Joseph is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Cape May County Tech, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7-1.

Looking ahead, St. Joseph will be playing in front of their home fans against Bridgeton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cape May County Tech, they will head out to face off against Wildwood Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
