Basketball Recap: Arrie Davis Jr.'s Big Game Can't Quite Lead Labelle over Neumann

LaBelle lost against Neumann back in November and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cowboys/Cowgirls took a 64-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Celtics. While losing is never fun, the Cowboys/Cowgirls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 460th, while the Celtics are ranked 121st).

Several Cowboys/Cowgirls players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Arrie Davis Jr., who shot 89% from the field on his way to 18 points. Davis Jr. is becoming a predictor of LaBelle's success: when he posts at least 15 points the team is 5-1 (and 1-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jerrahd Williams, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 12 points and four steals.

This is the second loss in a row for LaBelle and nudges their season record down to 6-6. As for Neumann, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

LaBelle and Rocky Bayou Christian will round out the year against one another at 9:55 a.m. on Saturday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Davis Jr. and Calix McCune. As for Neumann, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 58-43 loss against South Plantation on the 20th.
