Baseball Recap: Gustine Takes a Loss

Gustine extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 7-10. They came up short against the Le Grand Bulldogs, falling 10-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on Tuesday.

As for Le Grand, their win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games.

For Le Grand's part, Diego Martinez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Martinez has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Fabian Meza was incredible, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Luis Meza, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Gustine will challenge rival Modesto Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Le Grand is set to square off against their familiar foe Mariposa County at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 2.3, the Grizzlies 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
