Basketball Recap: Highline Comes Up Short

Highline won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They came up short against the Mercer Island Islanders, falling 69-43. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while the Islanders are ranked 86th).

Despite the loss, Highline still got an impressive performance from Corey Crosby, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Crosby is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jai'Lyn Chavers, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 12 points.

Mercer Island's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tristen Cruzen, who posted 15 points. Another player making a difference was William McDonald, who put up 13 points.

Highline has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Mercer Island, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.

Highline didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 79-65 defeat against Inglemoor on the 10th. As for Mercer Island, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-53 loss against Redmond on the 10th.
