Baseball Game Preview: Gilroy Mustangs vs. Lincoln Lions

The Gilroy Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Lincoln Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gilroy has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with four straight losses, while Lincoln will come in with five straight victories.

Gilroy lost 18-2 to Christopher on Tuesday.

Gilroy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Passama, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Lincoln got the win against Live Oak last Thursday by a conclusive 9-1. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Jayden Peters spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits.

At the plate, Lorenzo Collazo was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Bernwanger, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Lincoln always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Live Oak only posted an OBP of .269.

Lincoln's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Gilroy, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gilroy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lincoln struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Gilroy might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Lincoln when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
