Baseball Game Preview: Cherry Creek Bruins vs. Grandview Wolves

For the second straight game, Cherry Creek will face off against Grandview. The Bruins will be playing at home against the Wolves at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Cherry Creek has won seven straight at home, while Grandview won ten straight on the road), something that'll have to change.

Cherry Creek is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Grandview just ended the team's 15-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 3-2. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Bruins couldn't push the score so high this time.

For Grandview's part, Ethan Wachsmann was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Wachsmann has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

Grandview is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Cherry Creek, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 10-1 and their overall record down to 16-5-1.

Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cherry Creek hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Grandview struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
