Softball Recap: Denbigh Comes Up Short

Denbigh had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 10-13 to make it four. They came up short against the Menchville Monarchs, falling 9-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Patriots of the 19-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Menchville, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-6 record this season. Considering they have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Menchville's part, Taylor Twitchell (2027) spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Twitchell (2027).

On the hitting side, Rashani Sackey (2026) was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Rivera (2026), who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

While Denbigh had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
