Baseball Recap: Los Lunas Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with La Cueva

On Thursday, Los Lunas faced La Cueva in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Los Lunas Tigers fell 8-4 to the La Cueva Bears. If the Tigers were looking for revenge after losing 10-5 to the Bears when the teams met back in April of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Los Lunas saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Castillo, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was Castillo's first of the season.

Los Lunas moved to 6-5 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for La Cueva, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Los Lunas will face off against St. Pius X at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for La Cueva, they will take on Sandia at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. La Cueva is on a five-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), Sandia a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
