Basketball Recap: Jaylia Turner's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dixie over Abbeville

After flying high against GREEN Upstate last Friday, Dixie came back down to earth. The Dixie Hornets took a 24-19 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Abbeville Panthers. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Dixie's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaylia Turner, who posted eight points and five steals. Turner is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kerrie O'Shields, who had four points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Dixie's record now sits at 4-6. As for Abbeville, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Dixie wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 44-23 victory against Ware Shoals on the 9th. As for Abbeville, they will host South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind at 6:00 p.m. on January 14th. Abbeville's defense has only allowed 28 points per game this season, so South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind's offense will have their work cut out for them.
