Basketball Recap: Sandhills Valley Takes a Loss

Sandhills Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 35th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against the Brady Eagles, falling 55-29. If the Mavericks were looking for revenge after losing 51-12 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Sandhills Valley still got an impressive performance from Avery Weems, who went 8 for 20 to rack up 18 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Rachael Kemp-Powers also deserves some recognition as she pulled down her first boards of the season.

Even though they lost, Sandhills Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Brady's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Preslee Bartels, who went 6 of 9 from beyond the arc on her way to 18 points and five rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Bartels now owns an excellent 44.4% three-point shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Ella Lydic, who posted 11 points.

Sandhills Valley's loss dropped their record down to 0-14. As for Brady, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-6.

Sandhills Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 49-35 defeat against Paxton on the 7th. As for Brady, they have also already played their next game, a 65-39 loss against Arapahoe on the 7th.
