Football Game Preview: Newark Central Blue Devils vs. Cedar Grove Panthers

Newark Central is 0-4 against Cedar Grove since October of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Blue Devils will head out to take on the Panthers at 7:00 p.m.

Newark Central's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Hoboken on Friday. They lost 24-0 to the Redwings. The game marked the first time this year in which the Blue Devils were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Cedar Grove gave up the first points on Saturday, but they didn't give up any more after. They walked away with a 42-34 victory over Glen Ridge. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Ridgers: they've now won eight in a row.

Newark Central better keep an eye on Pierce Asfalg. He was instrumental in Cedar Grove's win, throwing for 233 yards and four TDs, while also rushing for 85 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those four passing touchdowns gave Asfalg a new career-high. Thomas Cannataro helped out on the ground, rushing for 100 yards.

Cedar Grove's record is now 5-2. As for Newark Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

Newark Central was taken down by Cedar Grove 44-6 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
