Baseball Recap: Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn Takes a Loss

Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn had lost four straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 8-8 to make it five. They fell just short of the St. Bede Bruins by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Rockets have suffered since May 7, 2024.

As for St. Bede, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

For St. Bede's part, Alan Spencer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Spencer was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

Spencer wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was AJ Hermes, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Hermes has brought in this season.

While Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
