Oak Grove has gone a perfect 5-0 against Columbia recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Oak Grove Warriors will take on the Columbia Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Oak Grove is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Oak Grove will head out to face Columbia after giving up their first home loss of the season on Saturday. Oak Grove came up short against Purvis, falling 13-2. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Warriors couldn't push the score so high this time.
Oak Grove saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mac McDaniel, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Columbia came tearing into Saturday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 12-0 shutout. That looming 12-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Wildcats yet this season.
Kade Ryals looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit over four innings pitched.
At the plate, MT Breland was a standout: he scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Will Breland, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Columbia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Columbia's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.8 runs. As for Oak Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Oak Grove has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .474. However, it's not like Columbia struggles in that department as they've averaged .464. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Oak Grove took their win against Columbia when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Oak Grove since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
