Baseball Recap: Verona Takes a Loss

Verona was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 21st straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-10 heartbreaker at the hands of the McAuley Catholic Warriors. Even if the Wildcats couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Caiden Hillhouse and Thomas Tarkington did some serious damage despite the final result: Hillhouse scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Tarkington scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Triston Reed was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

Verona's loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Verona Wildcats face off against Exeter Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for McAuley Catholic, they will head out to face off against Northeast Vernon County at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
