Softball Recap: Dayton Takes a Loss

The home team had come away the winner the last six times Dayton and Villa Madonna had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Greendevils came up short against the Vikings on Wednesday, falling 17-8. The defeat continues a trend for the Greendevils in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost three in a row.

Keira Hall was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. That home run was her first of the season. Emily Hall was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Dayton's loss dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Villa Madonna, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dayton will take on Beechwood at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Greendevils are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Villa Madonna, they will challenge Bellevue at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
