Mortimer Jordan is 9-1 against Cullman since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Blue Devils will face off against the Bearcats at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Mortimer Jordan and Springville, and Mortimer Jordan kept the tradition alive. The Blue Devils never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Tuesday.
Cullman came out on top against West Morgan on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run first inning. The Bearcats were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Rebels. The result was nothing new for the Bearcats, who have now won 18 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Kynlei Storey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hattie Graham, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 15 contests. Another player making a difference was Abby Maples, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Cullman pushed their record up to 32-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Mortimer Jordan, their record now sits at 12-15-1.
Mortimer Jordan got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March against Cullman by a conclusive 14-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
