The Whitko Wildcats will head out to face off against the Lewis Cass Kings at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Whitko is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Whitko managed to slip by Maconaquah the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Wildcats came up short against the Braves on Monday, falling 13-6. The Wildcats' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Crew Ebbinghouse was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Breyden Kirkdorffer was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Easton Grable was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Lewis Cass hadn't beaten Northwestern on the road since April 3, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Monday. The Kings came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 7-3. While the Kings didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
The victory made it two in a row for Lewis Cass and bumps their season record up to 7-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Whitko, their record is now 6-3.
Whitko was able to grind out a solid victory over Lewis Cass when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 7-2. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Kings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
