Basketball Game Preview: Gillespie Miners vs. Hillsboro Hiltoppers

Gillespie is 0-10 against Hillsboro since January of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Gillespie Miners will venture away from home to take on the Hillsboro Hiltoppers at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Gillespie is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Tuesday. The contest between them and Lincolnwood didn't end well, with Gillespie falling 70-56. While losing is never fun, the Miners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 588th, while the Lancers are ranked 267th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hillsboro). They claimed a resounding 86-27 win over Ramsey. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Hillsboro's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Gillespie, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Things could have been worse for Gillespie, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 68-50 loss to Hillsboro in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hillsboro's Jackson Tuetken, who posted 15 points and five steals.
