Baseball Game Preview: Sinton Pirates vs. Zapata Hawks

The Sinton Pirates will square off against the Zapata Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Sinton is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Columbia as they made off with an 11-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pirates.

Dylan Arriaga was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and four RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julian Suarez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Keldon Kemp, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Zapata got the win against La Feria on Thursday by a conclusive 7-1. That's two games straight that the Hawks have won by exactly six runs.

Sinton's win bumped their record up to 24-6-1. As for Zapata, the victory got them back to even at 12-12.

Everything went Sinton's way against Zapata in their previous matchup back in May of 2017, as Sinton made off with a 10-2 win. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
