Baseball Recap: Highland Triumphs

The Highland Hawks beat the DeMatha Stags 4-1 on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hawks.

Matthew McCauley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ethan Hudson was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Gunning, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

Highland's win bumped their record up to 16-7. As for DeMatha, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Highland will head out to challenge The Covenant School at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for DeMatha, they will venture away from home to face off against St. Albans at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
