Rockwood is 2-8 against North Star since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Rockets are taking a road trip to square off against the Cougars at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rockwood has six straight victories, North Star has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Rockwood's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Friday, when they got past Blacklick Valley's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Rockets put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 10-3 win.
Nathan Show made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Show was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Carson Brown was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Davis Bruening was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Windber hit North Star with a five-run sixth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ramblers.
North Star saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Meyers, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another was Nate Orris, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Rockwood pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for North Star, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
Rockwood was able to grind out a solid victory over North Star in their previous meeting on Thursday, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
