Shelton has gone a perfect 3-0 against Guilford recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Gaels will be playing in front of their home fans against the Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. Shelton is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
On Friday, Shelton came up short against Fairfield Prep and fell 26-14.
Despite the loss, Shelton got top-tier performance from Cole StPierre, who rushed for 115 yards and two TDs. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 65 yards.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Guilford). They blew past Foran 51-6 on Friday. With the Grizzlies ahead 35-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Guilford's win came from a few key players Shelton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Alex Tafro, who threw for 121 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes, and also rushed for 46 yards and one score. Another back making a difference was Aiden Ruotolo, who rushed for 82 yards and one TD on only six carries.
Guilford's run defense was locked in: Foran could only muster two yards per carry. The team can thank Aidan Connelly for the heroic effort on defense: he. Guilford didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 11.4.
Guilford's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as five different players picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Foran's side was Hyde Jacobson, who made five total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended five passes.
The win made it two in a row for Guilford and bumps their season record up to 3-1. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.5 points over those games. As for Shelton, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Shelton has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 152 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Guilford struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 230.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
