Recap: William Floyd Colonials vs. Ward Melville Patriots
After a string of four wins, the William Floyd Colonials's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of Ward Melville by a score of 45-42. William Floyd was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Ward Melville apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
When it comes to explaining why William Floyd lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kayla Gilmore. Despite the final result, she scored 23 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. The matchup was Gilmore's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacqueline Sutherland, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.
William Floyd's loss dropped their record down to 4-1. As for Ward Melville, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. William Floyd will take on Riverhead at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ward Melville will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Walt Whitman at 4:15 p.m. on January 12, 2024.
