Softball Recap: Kearns Gets the Win

Kearns's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They skirted past the Corner Canyon Chargers 9-8. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Chargers, too.

Sky Aguirre made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Stephani Serna, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Maliyah Solomon, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Kearns' victory bumped their record up to 6-13. As for Corner Canyon, they dropped their record down to 3-21 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kearns will head out to square off against Cyprus at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Corner Canyon, they will face off against Riverton at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Silverwolves have averaged an impressive 11.5 runs per game this season.
