It was a good run, but the Sandia Prep Sundevils unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 33-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cuba. Sandia Prep was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Cuba apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played last Tuesday.

Sandia Prep's loss came despite strong showings from Taylor Calkins and Maddy Weisler. Calkins scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks, while Weisler scored four points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Calkins has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played.

Even though they lost, Sandia Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cuba only pulled down five offensive rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cuba to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aleah Nez, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Nez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Liliana Maestas was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.

Sandia Prep's loss dropped their record down to 14-13. As for Cuba, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-12.

Sandia Prep will take on East Mountain at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully East Mountain focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 last Thursday. Cuba does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
