Basketball Game Preview: Piute Thunderbirds vs. Monticello Buckaroo

The Piute Thunderbirds will square off against the Monticello Buckaroo at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Piute's tournament run continued when they took on Panguitch last Saturday. Piute received a blow as they fell 58-39 to Panguitch.

Meanwhile, Monticello posted their biggest victory since January 14th two weeks ago. Everything went their way against Pinnacle as Monticello made off with a 62-39 win. The Buckaroo have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Piute's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-10. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.7 points over those games. As for Monticello, they pushed their record up to 13-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Everything came up roses for Piute against Monticello when the teams last played back in December of 2021, as the team secured a 61-34 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Monticello's Boston Freestone, who to rack up 17 points along with six boards and three steals.
