South Brunswick and North Brunswick are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. South Brunswick will head out on the road to square off against North Brunswick at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
South Brunswick is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Dixon on Monday as South Brunswick made off with an 11-1 win. That's two games straight that the Cougars have won by exactly ten runs.
Kina Davis spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Tabby Martin was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-4. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was TyiAnna Cummings, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
South Brunswick hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dixon struck out 12 times.
Meanwhile, North Brunswick waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Trojans 11-1. The Scorpions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by ten runs or more this season.
North Brunswick also let their pitcher toss all six innings played and she was also dialed-in: Shanley Hunt gave up only one earned run on five hits. That's the fewest earned runs Hunt has allowed since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Avia Dlouhy was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Jada Thomas was another key player, scoring a run while going 4-for-5.
South Brunswick pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for North Brunswick, their record is now 7-3.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Brunswick hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like North Brunswick struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South Brunswick came out on top in a nail-biter against North Brunswick when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Brunswick since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
