Softball Recap: Madison Central Comes Up Short

Madison Central blew South Laurel out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday South Laurel got their revenge. The Indians fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Indians have suffered since April 7th.

Kate Drury spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Madison Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Devan Stewart, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Madison Central's defeat dropped their record down to 14-7. As for South Laurel, they pushed their record up to 23-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Madison Central and South Laurel should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Kentucky Rankings. The Indians (ranked 25th) will meet Pendleton County (ranked 94th) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, South Laurel will take on Harlan County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (19 vs. 118). The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cardinals 1.8, the Black Bears 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
