Softball Recap: Lenape Valley Comes Up Short

Lenape Valley extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 3-16. They came up short against the High Point Wildcats, falling 12-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in April.

As for High Point, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-4. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won nine games by eight runs or more so far this season.

For High Point's part, Tori Meyers made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts Meyers has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, High Point let Karli Matthews and Journey Lain run wild. Matthews went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Lain got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Matthews has posted since back in April. Abi Amick was another key player, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Lenape Valley will square off against rival Kittatinny Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, High Point is set to challenge their familiar foe Jefferson Township at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 2.6, the Falcons 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
