Softball Game Preview: Cranberry Area Berries vs. Independence Patriots

The Cranberry Area Berries will venture away from home to take on the Independence Patriots at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Thursday, Cranberry Area came up short against Rowan County and fell 6-2.

Cranberry Area saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kennedy Stewart, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Independence's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Russell by a score of 11-10.

Emma Lilly and Ava Parks stepped up to the plate in a big way. Lilly scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Parks scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-5. Parks is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Acasia Cook, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 11-2. As for Cranberry Area, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cranberry Area hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Independence struggles in that department as they've averaged .402. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
