Basketball Game Preview: Monument Valley Cougars vs. Shiprock Chieftains

The Monument Valley Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Shiprock Chieftains at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Monument Valley is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.

Monument Valley is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Green River on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Cougars were outmatched by the Pirates and fell 86-45. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-22.

Despite their defeat, Monument Valley saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Caleb Cly, who shot 46% from the field to rack up 15 points and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Cly is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tarkale Tsosie, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine boards.

Meanwhile, Shiprock lost to Bloomfield at home by a 49-32 margin on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Chieftains in their meetings with the Bobcats: they've now lost five in a row.

Monument Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Shiprock, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.

Monument Valley took a serious blow against Shiprock in their previous meeting back in December of 2025, falling 85-29. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Cougars were down 45-20.
